COVID-19: Medical expert tasks media on accurate reporting, public education

A medical expert, Prof. Rotimi Jaiyesimi, on Thursday urged the media to ensure accurate reporting of COVID-19 pandemic, and educate the public that the virus is real.

Jaiyesimi spoke during a virtual media roundtable tagged: “COVID-19 Infection and You” on Thursday in Lagos.

He spoke as one of the panelists on: “COVID-19 in Nigeria: Knowing the Myths and Facts”.

The expert said that misinformation was the major factor that hindered the progress in containing the pandemic.

“The role of the media in the fight against COVID-19 is to ensure accurate reporting of issues relating to COVID-19 by cross checking their sources of information.

“The media should also report in local languages, in qualitative and quantitative messages.
