The Nigerian Academy of Science held its 1st NAS Annual Scientific Conference

The Nigerian Academy of Science held its 1st NAS Annual Scientific Conference on the 4th and 5th of February, 2020 in Lagos.

The conference, themed “The Role of Science in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framed around five sub-themes as follows: science for poverty reduction; revitalizing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education; innovations for health; energy solutions and environmental sustainability; and ensuring food security in Nigeria.
A keynote address titled ‘The Role of Science in attaining the SDGs’ was delivered by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) who is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Professor Suleiman Bogoro FAS.

The NAS Scientific Conference featured a few invited presentations, alongside several oral and poster presentations of original research. The conference also hosted exhibitions of products and services from the University of Lagos Research & Innovation Office, Society for Family Health, Raw Materials Research and Development Council, The Conversation Africa, The Leprosy Mission, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc., and Krystal Jewelry Craft Studio.

Participants included scientists from universities and research centres, postgraduate students in science disciplines, relevant government departments and agencies, the private sector, developmental agencies, and the media.
