Press Release on Women in Science Summit: Women in Science and Nigeria’s Development

In Nigeria, scientists face a myriad of challenges in the pursuit of research endeavors. In addition, female scientists have to deal with gender-specific challenges, including bias, cultural and religious barriers, managing the family-career balance, as well as lack of opportunities for collaboration. Despite this, women have been known to excel in STEM fields, as well as their male counterparts.  Nigeria needs science and technology to thrive, so there needs to be significant efforts to propel science as a whole, and empower women scientists in particular.
