NAS partners with Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

There has been a loud cry about the state of education in Nigeria for some time now. To ensure that students are better inspired and prepared even before entry into tertiary education, the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS), along with the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), and the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA) decided to initiate the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Project. The project will be implemented in six states across the six geopolitical regions of Nigeria. The states are Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Sokoto, Rivers, Ondo, and Adamawa.

On the 3rd and 4th of August 2023, a planning meeting of the STEAM education project was held at the NAS Secretariat in Lagos. Representatives from NAS, NAL, NYA & JAMB were present. The Chairman of the project team, Professor Obioma Nwaorgu FAS, reiterated that the project will advocate for the implementation of appropriate STEAM education policies, will strengthen the capacity of pre-tertiary schools’ teachers to deliver STEAM Education, and to increase awareness, stimulate interest, and foster STEAM literacy among students.
