NAS kick-starts the NAS Science-Entertainment Project
The Nigerian Academy of Science recognizes the impact of the Nigerian film and entertainment industry, therefore the NAS Science-Entertainment Project was born to aim at capitalizing on the industry’s influence to propagate science to the general public. The first planning meeting chaired by the Academy’s Public Affairs Secretary, Professor Olatunde Farombi FAS was held at the NAS Secretariat on Tuesday, 14th January, 2020. Farombi expressed the hope that the inaugural meeting’s outcomes would lead to a synergy and collaboration between the two sides because NAS is committed to ‘‘selling’’ science to the general populace.
The meeting discussed potential benefits of science-entertainment partnerships in Nigeria, possible activities for the project, fundraising for the project, as well as identified other ‘champions’ for the project.
Other participants at the meeting are Mrs. Sarah Ogochukwu, Scientific Officer/Event Organizer, Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) in Africa, Nigeria Chapter/National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Dr. Felix Emoruwa, Department of Creative Arts, University of Lagos, Ms. Meg Otanwa, actress, Mr. Yinka Oduniyi, President, Independent Television Producers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Oladoyin Odubanjo, Executive Secretary, NAS, Miss Mobolaji Dasaolu, Administrative Officer Communications, NAS and Miss Angie Olanipekun, Senior Program Officer, NAS.
