INGSA and NAS host science advice workshop

INGSA and NAS host science advice workshop The Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) collaborated with the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) to host a science advice workshop for representatives of African national science academies. The workshop held as the usual Learning Collaborative workshop of the Annual Meeting of African Meeting of African Science Academies (AMASA) which was being hosted by NAS.

For a day and a half (on the 13th and 14th of November 2017), participants were taken through the principles and processes of science advice. After
being declared open by the NAS President, Prof Mosto Onuoha FAS, an overview of science advice was presented by Prof Stephen Goldson from the INGSA headquarters in New Zealand. This was followed by group work/discussion on three case studies interspersed with presentations by Matthew Wallace of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, and Simone Grego of UNESCO. The workshop ended with presentations by members of the steering committee of INGSA-Africa, Madiagne Diallo and Doyin Odubanjo (INGSA-Africa Chair). Other steering committee members who served as facilitators were Sameh Soror, Justine Nzweundji, Richard Glover, and Christian Acemah. Also in attendance at the workshop were young researchers from across Africa who were grantees of the Leading Integrated Research for Agenda 2030 (LIRA) who were being hosted in NAS for the Annual Research Forum. LIRA is a programme of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC).
