The Nigerian Academy of Science has jointly released a statement on ‘The critical need for International Cooperation during Covid-19 Pandemic’.

STATEMENT ON COVID-19 IN AFRICATHE VIRUS:COVID-19,a novel viral disease, is caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus that belongs to the heterogeneous corona virus family whose notorious members include SARS and MERS.SARS-CoV-2 was first isolated in Wuhan, China in January 2020. In the subsequent months, the disease circumvented the globe, causing infections that resulted in more than1.3million1confirmed cases, with approximately 5% deaths and nearly 21% recoveries registered as at 6th April 2020. In pursuit of her mission to help solve national problems through the instrumentality of science, The Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) released a press statement ‘COVID-19 Pandemic: Containment is possible’. The outbreak of the respiratory disease, COVID-19, as announced by China in December 2019 has since put the world on edge. With the diagnosis and announcement of a case in Lagos (a traveler from Italy) on the 26th of February, the outbreak of the COVID-19 disease is now a reality in Nigeria. Read more

NAS announces time for a national lock down in Nigeria especially as the COVID-19 disease invaded the highest level of Nigeria’s governance threatening its national security!
