5TH NAS ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE #2
The Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) is the apex independent scientific body in Nigeria. The Academy’s mission is to promote the growth, acquisition and dissemination of scientific knowledge, and facilitate its use in solving problems of national interest. The Academy will hold its 5th Annual Scientific Conference on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th January, 2024. This edition of the conference, themed Transdisciplinary Research as Catalyst for Nigeria’s Sustainable Development, is slated to hold in Lagos.
The purpose of this conference is to bring together relevant stakeholders – policymakers, researchers, and the private sector – to showcase scientific research and innovations with the potential of addressing national challenges. The NAS invites scientists, students, and other stakeholders to submit abstracts of original research for this conference under the following sub-themes:
Subtheme 1: Artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies for Nigeria’s development. |
Research on the use of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in all aspects of national development including healthcare delivery, industrial production, and education |
Subtheme 2: Transdisciplinary research for healthcare in Nigeria. |
Transdisciplinary science research, including one-health research, with implications for healthcare delivery, drug policy, drug security, and drug discovery. |
Subtheme 3: Smart agriculture and food security. |
Transdisciplinary research that addresses climate change and provides solutions for sustainable food security in Nigeria. |
Subtheme 4: Emerging technologies for sustainable energy production and usage. |
Transdisciplinary research that explores the use of technologies for achieving sustainable energy production and consumption for an improved energy sector in Nigeria. |
Subtheme 5: Smart cities and emerging technologies. |
Research that showcases the potentials of emerging technologies for revolutionizing Nigeria’s transportation, manufacturing, housing, security, infrastructure, and data management. |
Subtheme 6: Emerging technologies in emergency preparedness and response. |
Research that illustrates emerging technologies as tools for preparing, and responding to emergency situations such as flooding, other natural disasters, public health emergencies etc |
Participation
Participation in the conference is open to all interested researchers, students from tertiary
institutions, and participants from the private sector. There is no registration fee for this edition of

Abstract Submission
To submit an abstract for the conference, please indicate so in the registration form, and provide a link to your abstract (in Microsoft Word format, Times New Roman Font Size 12, 500 words maximum, and not larger than 1MB). Please use this Abstract-Template-5th-NAS-Annual-Scientific-Conference.pdf for this purpose. Selected abstracts will be published in the Conference Book of Abstracts, and subsequently, full papers will be considered for publication in the Academy’s journal – The Proceedings of the Nigerian Academy of Science (PNgAS).
