NAS-T.Y Danjuma Science Museum and Library

The NAS-T.Y. Danjuma Science Museum and Library is a landmark national institution established by the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS), and, perhaps, a historic first for Nigeria and the entire West African sub-region. Bringing together a dedicated Science Museum and an integrated Science Library under one roof, it is a unique space where science is experienced, explored, and celebrated. Its public opening marks a defining moment, a concrete step toward a Nigeria where science is not abstract, but alive in the public imagination and central to national development. Science shapes every dimension of society, but for many Nigerians, science has felt inaccessible, confined to laboratories and academic institutions.

The NAS-T.Y. Danjuma Science Museum and Library will change that, bridging the gap between science and society, creating a shared national platform where curiosity is welcomed, knowledge is preserved, and discovery is for everyone.

The Science Museum is an interactive environment designed to make science tangible, relevant, and exciting. It will present science not just as a body of knowledge, but as a vital force that has shaped Nigeria’s history, is addressing today’s challenges, and will power a sustainable tomorrow. Visitors will explore curated exhibitions spanning the physical and biological sciences, encounter the stories of pioneering Nigerian scientists, and engage with digital installations, hands-on learning stations, guided demonstrations, and documentary screenings. At its heart, the museum is built on the vision that science is best understood by doing, and that every Nigerian, regardless of age or background, deserves that experience.

Complementing the Museum, the Science Library is a research and knowledge repository serving both the scientific community and the public. Its collections will include research data by NAS Fellows and other distinguished scientists, publications by NAS and other national science academies worldwide, as well as a broad range of science textbooks and reference materials. More than an archive, the library is envisioned as an intellectual hub; a destination for study, scholarly exchange, and scientific reflection.

The NAS-T.Y. Danjuma Science Museum and Library constitutes a national platform for science engagement, knowledge preservation, and intellectual advancement. They will foster a science-literate Nigeria, inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators, and support evidence-informed research and policy. Located in a serene suburb of Abuja (Wasa District), it is ideal for excursions and retreats for scientific enquiry and writing.
